Book for Speaking

Akil Houston_The Hiphopscholar_Booking Info

As many people continue to debate, discuss, critique, and marvel at one of the most innovative cultural creations of the 20th century, it’s time for those of us who hold Hiphop dear, to speak for and about it; and to also take some responsibility for where we want it to go versus where it’s going – unguided by strong leadership and conscious consumers.

I don’t presume to have all the answers or assume Hiphop is a monolith. What I do offer are questions, critiques, and observations in the ongoing dialogue about Hiphop culture and related popular culture matters.

Speaking topics and workshops include, but are not limited, to the following;

  • Good Ol’ Boys Club: American Masculinity
  • Beyond Diversity: Creating and Sustaining a Healthy Workplace
  • Male Feminists and Other Fictions: Conversation about Men and Feminism Theory and Practice
  • Hiphop Education: Culturally Relevant Pedagogy
  • African American Media & Popular Culture
